Welcome to PROTIERRA
After working in the environmental consulting industry over the last three decades, a few of my colleagues and I decided to create a new open forum for discussion about our profession— that's the PROTIERRA Institute. We created PROTIERRA to be an educational organization that will hopefully be a place where decision makers, environmental professionals, and yes, even developers could come together to broaden the discourse about how we all are collectively working to save our planet through what we hope is effective environmental analysis and mitigation for the forward progress of our society, culture and economy.

This is the PROTIERRA blog where we will share some of our thoughts about the accomplishments of environmental analysis, the state of our shared efforts, the obstacles we all face, and maybe even some suggestions for the future. It's too late for any of us to change our galactic vehicle; our ticket is on earth so we must drive this bus together, like it or not. And no matter what we think about environmental regulations, EIRs, and project mitigation, they are the only planetary maintenance program developed so far.

As a starting point, PROTIERRA will be launching an environmental process opinion survey. We will be sending it out to environmental consultants, public agency staff and elected decision makers to ask what we all think about our existing environmental review processes, how things are working today, and how they could be improved tomorrow.
